Google Meet only lets you pick a still image. MeetMoves is a
free Chrome extension that lets you use any video or GIF as your background, like an aquarium,
a rainy window, drifting stars, a fireplace, or your own clip. No OBS or virtual camera needed.
Install the free MeetMoves extension from the Chrome Web Store. Nothing to install outside your browser.
Start or join a Google Meet call in Chrome.
Open the visual effects / backgrounds panel (the sparkle icon).
Click the Add (+) tile and choose any video, GIF, or WebM file.
Your clip becomes your live background. That is the whole thing.
What you can put behind you
Calm scenes: a slow aquarium, ocean waves, rain on a window, a fireplace.
Sci-fi: a drifting nebula, a spaceship window, matrix-style code rain.
Fun or branded loops: a looping logo, a product demo, something ridiculous for standups.
Your own clip: any mp4, webm, or GIF you already have.
Free looping backgrounds are easy to find on Pixabay or Pexels. Search terms like
"aquarium loop", "rain window", or "nebula".
FAQ
Does Google Meet support video backgrounds?
Not natively. Google Meet only offers still images and background blur. MeetMoves adds
support for video and GIF backgrounds.
Can I use a video as my Google Meet background?
Yes. Install MeetMoves, open the backgrounds panel in a Meet call, and add any mp4 or
webm video. It becomes your live background.
How do I add an animated or GIF background to Google Meet?
MeetMoves lets Meet accept GIF and video files in the same backgrounds panel where you
would normally add a photo. Add the GIF and it plays behind you.
Do I need OBS or a virtual camera?
No. MeetMoves works entirely inside Chrome. There is no OBS, no virtual camera, and no
extra software to install.
Is MeetMoves free?
Yes, completely free. There is no paywall and no subscription.
Does it work on Chromebooks?
Yes. MeetMoves is a standard Chrome extension, so it runs on ChromeOS and Chromebooks.
